Exeter City Football Club's St James Park was the unexpected destination for a Barcelona fan who had traveled 366 miles from London. The supporter, who had purchased a £100 ticket for the Champions League last-16 clash, mistakenly drove to the wrong stadium. He was expecting to watch Barcelona take on Newcastle United, but instead found himself at the League One match between Exeter City and Lincoln City. Staff at Exeter City Football Club's St James Park were able to figure out the issue when the fan repeated the word 'Barcelona' as he tried to gain access to the stands. The fan's English wasn't great, but the staff were able to understand his mistake and offered him a free ticket to watch the remainder of the match. Exeter City Football Club's supporter experience officer, Adam Spencer, said: 'One of our volunteers came to the office to let us know that this guy had turned up expecting to see Barcelona. His English wasn't great, but from what we could gather, he'd come from London. He was pretty gutted and a bit embarrassed. So, we sorted him out a ticket and he got to watch a game at the real St James Park. He'd be welcome back any time.' Exeter City Football Club's St James Park has a capacity of 8,219, which is less than a fifth the size of Newcastle United's St James' Park. The two stadiums share the unusual quirk of having the same name, with the only difference being the presence of an apostrophe in Newcastle's ground. The fan was treated to a 1-0 win for Lincoln City, which may not have been the Champions League match he was expecting, but it was still a memorable experience for the Exeter City Football Club fan.
