Exeter City manager Matt Taylor has welcomed the return of midfielder Harry Kite to St James Park. Kite, 26, has penned a one-year deal after joining from Truro City. He could make his second Grecians debut in Monday's Carabao Cup Devon derby at Plymouth Argyle.
What happened?
Kite made 102 appearances for City and scored seven goals, but decided to leave St James Park to seek a new challenge in the summer of 2025. He spent some time back at Exeter rehabbing from a hamstring injury before spending time with the PFA. His return to football saw him play for both Yeovil Town and Truro in the National League last season.
Why it matters for Exeter City Football Club
Taylor hopes Kite can find the form of old and bring quality to the Grecians' thin squad ahead of their League One campaign. "It's something we'd spoken about at the start of pre-season," Taylor said. "He's a player who I've worked with previously, he's a player who's fallen out of the league, or dropped out of the league, he's a player who's local, he's affordable and he adds to our midfield."
What comes next?
Taylor added: "He adds a different dynamic to our midfield and a little bit of a different dynamic to probably the team as well. He's got an explosion, a power, an aspect of physicality which is, like I say, different to the rest of the group and we know the pressure on our spine of the team in terms of their previous injuries, and what might come this season."
League standing
Exeter City finished 21st in League One last season, with 49 points from 46 games. They have scored 52 goals and conceded 61 so far this season, with a goal difference of -9. They are 54 points behind leaders Lincoln.
Transfer news
Kite's return to Exeter City is a boost for the club, who are still casting their eye over trialist Ali Koiki. Finn Tonks has returned to AFC Bournemouth as he continues his recovery from injury.
