Exeter City Football Club are set to kick off their summer transfer business with an experienced forward being brought in from the National League. The Grecians will be rebuilding under Matt Taylor, who will look to guide the club back to League One next season. According to reports from Pete O'Rourke, Exeter City have agreed a deal for Morecambe winger Gwion Edwards, who was recently in discussions over potentially extending his stay with the Shrimps following the expiration of his deal. Now, it appears he will be leaving the Lancashire club, now set to move further south to join the Grecians. Edwards to Exeter will surprise many, given the forward's recent relegation with the National League club. Though his experience at EFL level is very valuable. The 33-year-old has been a reliable forward for the likes of Crawley Town, Peterborough United, and Ipswich Town over the years, and was one of the few bright sparks for Morecambe fans over the last two seasons. Returning seven goals for the club last season, it was not enough to save the club from a pitiful relegation into the National League North. He is regarded for his hard work and his versatility across wide positions. It remains to be seen how much of a role he will play for City next season, but he brings experience to what is a relatively young Grecians squad. While the 33-year-old is not the most exciting first signing, his value in experience is clear to see, while he should still be a capable performer at League Two level. A rebuild is on the cards for the Grecians, and Matt Taylor is one that fans will trust to do just that. However, the club will be expecting bids for their keyman, Jayden Wareham. Despite the Grecians' relegation, he returned 19 goals in his first season for the club at age 23, and is sure to have several suitors in the transfer window. Exeter have always been sensible in their spending and recruitment, so the prospect of Matt Taylor having funds from a potentially huge fee for Wareham is certainly exciting. The club is extremely well run, so they will back themselves for an immediate return to League One football.
