Exeter City Football Club were denied a win over Bristol City by a late leveller in their pre-season match. Reece Cole's stunning goal was matched by Tomi Horvat's deflected effort in the 83rd minute. The Grecians showed promise in their match, with Cole's goal being a highlight of the game. Exeter City rounded off their pre-season with an 1-1 draw against Championship side Bristol City at St James Park. The match was a competitive clash, but lacked a clinical nature in front of goal. Exeter City's young side had more than matched what appeared to be Bristol City's first team earlier in the day at Plymouth Argyle. Exeter City's strongest side took to the field at St James Park, with Jack Bycroft in goal and Ed James, Jack Fitzwater, and Luca Woodhouse in defence. Gwion Edwards, Taylor Perry, Charlie Cummins, Reece Cole, and Andrew Oluwabori were in midfield, with Sonny Cox and Jayden Wareham up front. Exeter City flew out of the traps in the opening moments, with Oluwabori dancing down the right and picking out Wareham, whose shot on the spin was well kept out by a diving Brad Collins. Wareham then met Edwards' floated cross on the volley, and again Collins just about managed to keep it out. Perry's header on the rebound was tipped over, and Edwards then tested Collins. At the other end, Jed Wallace flashed just wide, before Sam Bell saw an effort go into the side netting. Exeter City's young side had given them confidence heading into the action proper.
